Diptych Like Velvet is part of a special series, Blue as Velvet speaks to us of a nostalgia for a primordial, unspoiled nature, later domesticated by man.

Invented landscapes, imaginary still lifes, forests encapsulated as samples of nature, where mystery or fantasy almost always emerges. The technique of painting on velvet contributes to this romantic idea and gives the series a special atmosphere.

Baptiste Laurent (Nantes, France 1980) is a visual artist based in Spain since 2007. Founder of the Latolier studio, he has exhibited at the French Institute of Madrid, the Palais de Tokyo, the Caja, the Gazzambo Gallery, the Alliance Française, the National Museum of Anthropology, Espacio Seara, Esquina Nua, among others.

His traditional medium is painting, but he also works in sculpture and, above all, in projects with a strong literary, social and anthropological component.
