His home at 710 Ashbury Street was at the heart of the enlightenment and self-expression that defined San Francisco in the 1960s. It also fueled his deep exploration of painting and the visual arts.

Like his guitar playing, Garcia's sketches and paintings seem to meander across the canvas, taking unexpected turns before changing shape entirely. His work shows us that improvisation is not limited to the stage and that our ideas should not be confined by expectations.
