Blackwing Volume 200 Limited Edition (set of 12)
Description
The story around Blackwing's Volume 200 pencils was born in 1948, in the midst of the uncertainty of post-war America, the Beat Generation was born. This literary movement, rooted in anti-materialism and exploration of the human condition, gathered in New York and San Francisco coffeehouses to recite poetry over cups of black coffee. During the 1950s and 1960s, coffeehouses became synonymous with creativity and intellectualism.
One such example was Caffè Lena in Saratoga, New York. Opened in a former carpentry shop in 1960, Caffè Lena remains the oldest coffeehouse in the United States still in operation. That longevity has allowed it to host countless creative icons, from Beatniks to members of the Folk Revival, and has established Caffè Lena as a cornerstone of the creative counterculture in America.
The Blackwing 200-volume pencils are a tribute to coffee shops like Caffè Lena and the creative culture they help cultivate. Each pencil features a metallic copper design, inspired by the classic copper coffee roasting machines found in many coffee shops during the 1950s and 1960s. The roasting process begins when the internal temperature of a coffee bean reaches 200 degrees Celsius, transforming it into a familiar coffee bean. These pencils also feature our firm graphite core, perfect for finding inspiration at a local coffee shop.
