King Medusa, by Brecht Evens, marks his return with a story as disturbing as it is visually stunning.
The work chronicles the life of Arthur, a ten-year-old boy who has grown up seeing the world through his father's paranoid eyes: "a hostile place, manipulated by a vast conspiracy, where no one can be trusted-not at school, not your neighbors, not even your friends." Sheltered at home, which has been transformed into a fortress, father and son prepare for a supposed battle against the forces of evil. But when the father disappears without a trace, Arthur is left alone to face a reality that he no longer knows is real or imagined.
With his characteristic pictorial and narrative style, Evens has created a work that is both a dark fable and a profound exploration of the human psyche, childhood, and fear.
This first volume was nominated for best work at the Angoulême International Comic Festival 2025.
